WE HAVE ARRIVED
Well, it has happened. velocache.net is now a fully operational battle station. Prepare yourselves.
Before I digress, which I am known to do, let me start off by giving some credit and handing out some thanks. This would not have happened without you all. You know who you are. Thank you. The new site would not be in existance without Buttars, if you run into him, give him a hug and buy him a beer. HUGE thank yous to the veterans out there who have kept this afloat in times of trouble and triumph...I have personal things to say to you that will have to wait until we have a face to face.
At the pokercache party on September 19 I would really like to take a bit of all of your time and preach a little about "the game". We'll see, I will probably just get drunk and cry a lot.
SO. Go to the site. Familiarize yourself. It is different than the one we play on now but can do all of the things we do now AND MUCH MUCH MORE. You will need to create an account. It is free and always will be for players. I realize some of you have already been in and have looked around but it is time for everyone to come on board. Texting from a phone to the site works. E-mailing too. There is a great forum feature that we can all cache ourselves in as well. This site is still in beta. It is not finished so now is the time to see if we can break it.
For now, play around. Posting "real" caches is not off limits but I think it might serve us better to get really comfortable with the new toy before we go "live". Post pictures of your cats and dogs. Go to the forum and talk about bikes. Have fun.
LOVE to you all. -A. Mortician

ReplyDeletebut what was the "perspective shot", as in what the cache sees??? Not "to" the cache!
ReplyDeletehuh? i am about to post the found pics now...
ReplyDeletemy comment was to A-1....
ReplyDeleteHotti, I think the issue is lack of clear requirements. Nowhere in the "THE RULES" does it explain to take a shot FROM the cache's perspective. I think the natural thought is to take a detailed pic of the cache, and a "hint" of where it is at. I and others have followed this method until the desired method was indirectly communicated. A perspective FROM the cache is not an intuitive hint. The FROM-perspective scheme can obviously work as long as everyone knows that is the requirement, but nowhere is that requirement published (that I have found) other than chastising comments after the fact. So, organizers/founders, what are the picture requirements and can they be made clearer for new folks?
ReplyDeleteThis is from tips tricks and FAQ
ReplyDelete"OK, Just a few things:
-We are seeing some slack in the photos that are coming in on the finds. We really do want to have images that are as much like the the original deployment photos. Found photos should look just like the originals. Yeah we want your bike in the photo. Yeah mug shots are ALWAYS cool. We really need to keep in mind sharing the same perpective in these photos at all times, please?
-As far as deployments are concerned, keep the perspective in mind. When you are taking pics from your cache stash, take them as if you were standing on top of that little bundle of goodness. The perspective is to be from of the cache itself, not a picture of your ride leaning up against the cache."
...and don't feel chastised, this game is in evolution at all times and we do have players that have been here from the beginning and some that have just started. We need EVERYONE to play so it can be a balanced and nuanced experience. There is never any reason to get down on someone for "not playing right", it only presents an opportunity to share some knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI don't come on here very often to do this sort of thing but if you all think I should, let me know. I just think it is better to let the game dictate behaviors, not a benevolent dictator...although I really AM a benevolent dictator.
thank you a. mortician for finding that blurb on perspective. Some of us have been playing for some time now and have really come to realize how important consitency is with this game. With some caches it is really easy to figure out where it is because you see it right away. Often times, at least for me and a few others, this has not been the case. We have to use these perspective shots to figure out the exact location of the cache. When the pictures are taken from just any place in the vicinity, that does not help honing in on the cache. If the perspective FROM the cache doesn't quite work for some reason then that just needs to be disclosed so the person looking for it isn't looking in the wrong direction. I have spent a long time at one spot rummaging around in the bush looking for cache and have had to return to said spot because the photos weren't consistent. Basically, it is all about consistency. That is all. out.
