WE HAVE ARRIVED

Well, it has happened. velocache.net is now a fully operational battle station. Prepare yourselves.

Before I digress, which I am known to do, let me start off by giving some credit and handing out some thanks. This would not have happened without you all. You know who you are. Thank you. The new site would not be in existance without Buttars, if you run into him, give him a hug and buy him a beer. HUGE thank yous to the veterans out there who have kept this afloat in times of trouble and triumph...I have personal things to say to you that will have to wait until we have a face to face.

At the pokercache party on September 19 I would really like to take a bit of all of your time and preach a little about "the game". We'll see, I will probably just get drunk and cry a lot.

SO. Go to the site. Familiarize yourself. It is different than the one we play on now but can do all of the things we do now AND MUCH MUCH MORE. You will need to create an account. It is free and always will be for players. I realize some of you have already been in and have looked around but it is time for everyone to come on board. Texting from a phone to the site works. E-mailing too. There is a great forum feature that we can all cache ourselves in as well. This site is still in beta. It is not finished so now is the time to see if we can break it.

For now, play around. Posting "real" caches is not off limits but I think it might serve us better to get really comfortable with the new toy before we go "live". Post pictures of your cats and dogs. Go to the forum and talk about bikes. Have fun.

LOVE to you all. -A. Mortician

Mobile posting, how-to.

I'm hoping that this will help minimize un-posted finds and confusion. Everybody who has a phone has the ability to post or to alert the administrators that something has been found in one way or another. You don't need a blackberry or an iphone, and you don't need to use your phone's web browser.

Any phone that can send a text message can send an email.

If you're a newbie, or for whatever reason haven't been granted access to post on your own, add velocacheboise(at)gmail(dot)com to your address book, and send a text to that address when you've found something. Yes, it works, try it with your own email address if you don't believe me. And no, it doesn't cost you anything extra, just the price of a standard text message. I'm also willing to volunteer to make posts anytime I can, so you can also send the message to boisebikewinos(at)gmail(dot)com and I will post for you if I can.

If you do have your own posting access, go to your dashboard, click the settings tab, then click 'email and mobile'. From there you can create the email address that you will use to post to the blog. It will be youremailaddress.awordyoudecide@blogger.com. Make sure you also set it to post emails immediately, not save emails as drafts. Once this is done, proceed as above. Enter the email address into your phone, and you will be able to post from your phone. If your phone gives you the option of including a subject line in your text messages, use it. This will become the title of the post, and any photos and text you enter will be the body of the post. Most phones will, of course, only be able to send one photo at a time, so you will have to send your post with the one photo, then add the rest from your computer when you get home, but this will still allow you to post on the go, and hopefully help us all avoid dragging our asses around town looking for cache that's already found. (That was what is known as a run-on sentence. I could go back and fix it, but I'd rather just sit here and mock myself.)

That is all.
I hope this was helpful for everybody.

Wino.
Awesome.
